The wildfire decimated the area in September 2020, scorching 131,542 acres and burning 109 homes.

Not far from Rock Creek Road, one home survived the fire. Art Parazoo, a caretaker for Plikat Logging, watched as the fire approached.

“Well, it came from that direction, out that direction,” said Parazoo.
Parazoo moved to the area about two months before the fire, but somehow it spared the little green home where he resides.

“There’s no reason for the house to be standing today. It’s hard to say,” added Parazoo. “It’s just a spiritual thing.”

Mike Pryor, owner and President of Evergreen Arborists agrees.

The licensed timber operator from California and his team spent months felling damaged trees from the fire, which was both physically and emotionally taxing.
